What if Horizon BCBS Approves One Partner but the Other Is Uninsured?

If Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield approves treatment for one insured partner, Trinity Behavioral Health can separately review the other uninsured partner for its couples sponsorship model. The approval applies only to the enrolled member. It does not automatically create coverage for the spouse or partner. Trinity sponsorship is a separate admissions decision and should be confirmed before travel.

Does Horizon approval cover both of us?

No. An approval or authorization for one Horizon member does not automatically extend to an uninsured spouse or partner. The second person must either have their own qualifying coverage or be separately reviewed for Trinity sponsorship.

Can the uninsured partner still enter treatment with me?

Potentially. If the second partner is eligible for sponsorship and both people are clinically appropriate for couples rehab, they may be able to enter treatment together.

What if our recommended levels of care are different?

Each partner is assessed individually. One person may require detox or residential rehab, while the other may be appropriate for PHP or IOP.
