Will every prescription automatically continue?
No. A home medication may be continued, adjusted, substituted, temporarily held, or require additional verification depending on the medication and clinical circumstances. The decision should be made by qualified clinicians rather than by stopping everything automatically.
Why can detox change a medication plan?
Withdrawal management can involve new medications, changes in vital signs, sedation risk, liver or kidney concerns, psychiatric symptoms, and interactions with recently used substances. Clinicians need an accurate medication list to make those decisions safely.
Should I stop medications before arriving?
Do not stop prescribed medication on your own simply because you are entering detox. Abruptly stopping some psychiatric, seizure, cardiovascular, or other medications can create additional risks.
What should I bring?
Follow the facility’s instructions. An accurate list should include medication name, dose, frequency, reason for use, pharmacy, prescriber, allergies, and recent changes. If the program asks you to bring medication containers, use the original pharmacy-labeled packaging.
What about controlled medications?
Controlled medications may need additional verification, storage, or review because of diversion, interaction, or dependence concerns. That does not mean they are automatically discontinued.
How is this different from ordinary medication reconciliation?
