How Are Rehab Costs Determined When My PPO Uses MultiPlan?

When a PPO uses MultiPlan, rehab costs are determined primarily by the underlying health plan—not by MultiPlan alone. MultiPlan can provide network access and negotiated pricing arrangements, but it is not the insurer that defines every member’s deductible, coinsurance, covered services, or authorization rules. Trinity Behavioral Health accepts MultiPlan PPO network arrangements when the specific plan provides applicable access.

Because member responsibility can vary substantially, the best next step is to verify the specific PPO benefits before admission.

What factors determine my rehab cost?

Potential member costs can depend on the underlying insurer or employer plan, whether Trinity is treated as in network or out of network, the deductible remaining, copay or coinsurance, the requested level of care, authorization requirements, and the services ultimately approved and provided.

Does MultiPlan set my deductible or coinsurance?

Generally, no. MultiPlan states that it is not an insurance company. The payer or benefit plan using MultiPlan’s network establishes the member’s benefit design. That is why two plans that both use MultiPlan can have very different cost-sharing rules.

Can network status affect what I pay?

Yes. A plan may use MultiPlan as a primary or complementary PPO network. If applicable network access is available, negotiated rates can affect the allowed amount used in claim processing. However, the underlying plan still determines how deductibles, coinsurance, and other cost sharing apply.

Do detox, residential rehab, PHP, and IOP have the same cost?

Not necessarily. Different levels of care can be processed under different benefit rules. Trinity provides detox, residential rehab, PHP / day treatment, and IOP. Coverage and member cost should be checked separately for the level of care being considered.

What should I verify before estimating out-of-pocket costs?

  • The actual insurer, employer plan, or third-party administrator
  • Active eligibility
  • Which MultiPlan network applies
  • Trinity’s applicable network status under that plan
  • Deductible remaining
  • Copay or coinsurance
  • Out-of-pocket maximum rules
  • Prior authorization requirements
  • Any out-of-network benefits
