UnitedHealthcare PPO continuity or transition-of-care provisions may apply in some situations when a member is already receiving treatment and a provider’s network status or the member’s coverage changes. These protections are plan- and circumstance-specific. Trinity Behavioral Health accepts UnitedHealthcare insurance, but continuity-of-care approval is not automatic.
If you are already in treatment, verify the current UnitedHealthcare PPO policy and transition-of-care options before assuming an existing authorization will continue unchanged.
What is continuity of care?
Continuity of care generally refers to a temporary arrangement that may allow an eligible member to continue an ongoing course of treatment during a coverage or network transition.
Can continuity of care apply to addiction treatment?
Potentially. Behavioral-health and substance-use treatment may be considered when plan rules and circumstances qualify. Residential, PHP, and IOP may still require separate authorization or medical-necessity review.
Does continuity guarantee the same treatment level?
No. A continuity arrangement does not necessarily guarantee the same level of care or length of stay. Utilization review can continue.
What should be verified?
- Eligibility for transition or continuity provisions
- The level of care involved
- Whether prior authorization remains required
- How claims will be processed
- Deductible, copay, or coinsurance
- The duration of any approved transition period
